Social Networking at Work

Just yesterday I discovered yammer.com - a tool for bringing legitimate social networking into the office. I spontaneously set this up for my work group, without a good sense for the repercussions. I let everyone know that this is an experiment and that we will track it to see what effect, if any it is having.
More than anything my hope is that it can create a digital unity across a group that is spread between Calgary and Edmonton.
The idea was spurred on by a conversation I had with D. She was asking about a new way to keep in touch with "the field" (front line workers). We discussed Facebook and how the learning curve would be really shallow, but I got to thinking about all the potential problems with invasion of privacy and the crossover to lost time Facebook might entail.
